Freedom Writers

I just finished reading The Freedom Writers Diary and still cannot get over how great it is. The stories and lives of the students in the book makes my stomach turn over and my eyes water. I thought the book would take me a while to get into and to finish, but once I started, I didn't want to put it down. The students write with such candor and when I stop and think about it, I am sure that many of the students that I had this past year while student teaching have seen similar situations. It breaks my heart how much sadness and violence and war these children are exposed to at such a young age. I know that the more teachers, educators, and parents that read this book will have a forever changed outlook on what his or her students/children tell them. A truly inspiring book.
